Welcome to Ellis Diabetes Education & Consulting, LLC.

Welcome to Ellis Diabetes Education & Consulting, LLC.!!! My name is Kim Ellis. I am a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and I have a passion for Culturally Competent care in Diabetes, specifically prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. I didn’t always feel this way about diabetes so let me give you a bit of the back story…

Where It All Began…

In past roles, I served as a primary care provider (PCP) but in my current role, I perform wellness home visits and noticed how under educated the patients were especially when it came to diabetes. Given the current state of our healthcare system, I wondered how well the PCP could actually perform diabetes education during the busy clinical day. Furthermore with new advances happening all of the time, I could see how a provider could fall behind on the updates constantly coming about.

So, I went on a journey to build upon my knowledge of the disease. I started with myself and found it difficult to find concise and useful information for the practicing Nurse Practitioner. There was plenty of information out there for the lay person and even the provider new to patient care but what about that nurse practitioner who had practiced for a while and needed a refresher? Again, what about the nurse practitioner that needed to build on their knowledge? I realized at that moment that we as nurse practitioners needed a resource….a resource that provided the “Need to Know” Info over Diabetes Education and Management! A place to go if you had a question in the midst of seeing patients and needed a quick answer without having to dig into laborious textbooks and lengthy articles.

The Love of Diabetes Management

As I began learning more about the disease and the new advances in education and management, I wanted to be a part of the solution for my fellow colleagues. I will be the first to tell you that I don’t know everything there is to know about diabetes but I do enjoy the study of it and actually find joy reading articles and books (I know..I’m a geek!). In my free time, I actually read up on this stuff so my thoughts are, “As I learn, let me teach!” If this is something that interests you whether you are a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner student, a new graduate nurse practitioner, or even a seasoned nurse practitioner, come along with me as we grow in our knowledge of Diabetes to better serve our patients. Below are helpful resources that I compiled to get you started and my YouTube channel trailer. Make sure you SUBSCRIBE to my channel, Kim E.
